Ha Gorge

One of the wildest ravines in Crete

The place

The Gorge of Ha lies in the region of Ierapetra, next to the village of Vasiliki, cut into the western face of the Thripti mountains. It is considered one of the wildest and most demanding gorges in all of Crete.

Barely a few metres wide in places and dropping through a chain of waterfalls and pools, Ha is a technical canyoning route — rope work, abseils and cold water — attempted only by experienced canyoners with the right guides and equipment. It is not a walking trail.

For everyone else, the gorge is spectacular from the outside: the great vertical gash in the mountain is visible from the plain below, and the drive up toward Thripti and Vasiliki is beautiful in its own right.
